Four years ago I quit my job and decided to see if we could afford for me to be a stay-at-home mom. I had a 17 month old little boy and wanted to get pregnant again. But the idea of having to go back to work right after the baby was born was more than I could handle. I had done it with our son, it was not something that I wanted to do again, it is HARD to leave your baby everyday (even if it is with family). So when the company I was working for was sold to another owner and things started changing, I quit, left, walked-out, in fact. Went home to be the mom I wanted to be (but couldn't necessarily afford to be). My husband and I talked about it, we had a bit in savings, we would cut back to the basic essentials of living and see how long I would be able to afford to stay home.

Well 4 years later (to the month, in fact) I found myself in a different place. Both of my kids were starting school....my son was starting half day kindergarten and my daughter was starting preschool. They were going to be gone half days and I was going to be here, at home....alone.

Then a phone call came, a text message in fact. From an old co-worker, asking if I would want to come back to work part time. The doctor that I worked for years ago was looking for someone part time to help him out. I had always planned that when the kids went to school I would really dive into my
Etsy Shop and see if I could make enough to help care for this sweet little family. So after a phone call with the doctor and a long talk with my husband I started back to work.
It has been a big adjustment for everyone, but is working out well. All this said my sewing time has been a little tighter than I had planned, but financially we are in a much better spot. And it is nice to be back to work (talking to adults and such). :)
Here is the quilt I finished just in time for my niece's 4th birthday. She LOVED it!!! This pattern is Squares and Strips by Allison at Cluck. Cluck. Sew. You can find the FREE pattern
here! I love the way it turned out and my niece, Claire, thought it was just perfect! :)
I still need to quilt and bind my
Vintage Holiday Quilt, it may have to wait until I get back into the swing of things at work! Waking up to an alarm clock is not nearly as nice as a sweet little 3 year old climbing under your covers. :)
Have a great week!
Cherie

I know that it was probably a very hard decision to make and do, but you will get into a routine and a balance. I am still working trying to pay stuff off to get ready for me to stop working. I am finding it is harder when the kids are in school than in daycare, so good luck. You will find time to fit it all in, but you know what is best for your family!
ReplyDeleteI also forgot to mention that your quilt for your niece is absolutely adorable and it is good that you have the Vintage Holiday Quilt almost finished. I have only 2 ornaments completed. The hazards of working almost full time!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words! And for the words of encouragement! It means so much! Can't wait to see your Vintage Holiday Quilt....hoping you get some more sewing time soon! :)

DeleteWas this all from one fabric line?
ReplyDeleteHello! This is a mix of quite a few different lines. Looks like there is a lot of Katie Jump Rope and Flea Market Fancy by Denyse Schmidt, with some Pezzy Prints by Moda mixed in! I hope that helps!
