Sugar Block Club and Quitting My Job

A while back I told you about starting back to work after being a stay at home mom for the last 5 years.  I started back to work in September, right as my kiddos were starting school.  My oldest son, Cohen, was starting half day kindergarten and I thought it would be a perfect time to try to go back to work as both kids would be in school a couple of days a week.  Within a few weeks I realized it was not going to be as smooth  of a transition as I had hoped.

Cohen has always had delayed fine motor skills, his handwriting and hand strength in general were always an issue for him.  Within the first month of Cohen starting kindergarten his teacher talked to me about having an Occupational Therapist evaluate him.

After an evaluation with our Occupation Therapist Cohen was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder.  Sensory Processing Disorder is a neurological disorder that results from the brain's inability to integrate certain information received from the body's five basic sensory systems.

The long and short of it is that Cohen has a hard time with writing (his hands aren't strong enough to hold his pencil properly), noises (loud noises put him over the moon, but constant noises like a fan humming or music playing) makes it horribly hard for him to concentrate. He has issues with food, he will only eat certain things as the taste and smell are hard for him to manage. He also has issues with his sight, flashing or bright lights are very hard for him to deal with. It has been a long, hard road this year but on the upside, we now know what we are dealing with and we are getting him all of the help he needs.

All of this to say, I have quit my job and am back home with my kids. Money is tight and it was hard to leave such a wonderful job, but my son needs me here....full time. I feel blessed to be able to stay home with them and am so happy to be here whenever he needs me. :)

On another note....these are the blocks I have been working on for the Sugar Block Club Sew-Along!

I love how they turned out! Although the pink and navy one is paper-pieced and took me almost 5 hours to complete! HA! If you haven't joined in yet, it is not too late! And it is tons of fun!

I am off to pick up my kids from school! Have a great week!
